Summer Medical Research Intern (Ovarian Cancer)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and innovative high school junior or senior to join our team as a Summer Medical Research team Intern. This internship will be primarily online and will report to the assigned Mentor at our ovarian cancer foundation. The ideal candidate will be excited about serving and passionate about technology, they will be responsible for developing and implementing technology solutions to advance our mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews and perform in-depth research on various aspects of ovarian cancer, including medical treatments, clinical trials, medications, diagnostic methods, and research advances.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to ovarian cancer research studies, clinical trials, and treatment outcomes.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and management of research projects focused on ovarian cancer, including data collection, patient recruitment, and consent procedures.
  • Collaborate with a team of researchers, physicians, and other medical professionals to analyze research findings, identify trends, and propose potential treatment approaches or areas of further investigation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in ovarian cancer research, treatment modalities, and emerging therapies through attending relevant online methods.  
  • Prepare research reports, summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including scientific publications and grant proposals.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records, databases, and documentation related to research projects and ensure compliance with research protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Contribute to the overall research strategy by providing insights, suggesting new research directions, and participating in team discussions and brainstorming sessions.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a medical, biological sciences, or related degree program (undergraduate or graduate level). Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on oncology or related fields.
  • Strong interest in medical research, specifically in the area of ovarian cancer.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and scientific literature search tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficient in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, or similar).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ethical conduct and adherence to confidentiality guidelines when handling sensitive research data.

Duration: This is an 8-week internship, starting in June and ending in August 2023.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
